Samsung Announces Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 at July 2026 Unpacked Event

At its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2026, Samsung Electronics officially launced its flagship trio: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Alongside these handsets, the company introduced the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

The new devices feature hardware refinements, updated hinge designs, and expanded Galaxy AI features. With the addition of an “Ultra” model to the Z Fold series, Samsung is diversifying its foldable choices ahead of expected market releases from competitors later this year.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra introduces several hardware upgrades to the top of the foldable lineup:

• 200MP Primary Camera: Incorporates a 200MP main sensor, a 5x optical telephoto lens, and updated image signal processing (ISP) for low-light photos.
• Agentic AI Integration: Features Now Nudge, an AI agent that proactively suggests multi-window actions (such as automatically bringing up Calendar when dinner plans are mentioned in chat), and Gemini Notebook, which transforms meeting notes or recordings into summaries, slide decks, podcasts, and video briefs.

Galaxy Z Fold8

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 focuses on weight reduction and general hardware updates:

• Design Adjustments: At 201 grams, it weighs nearly 10 grams less than the previous generation and features a revised display stack aimed at reducing crease visibility.
• Form Factor & Display: Folds horizontally rather than vertically, creating a broader 4:3 aspect ratio on its 7.6-inch main screen when opened. The outer display measures 5.5 inches with a 10:16 aspect ratio.
• Processor Upgrades: Runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for Galaxy platform, offering standard updates to processing speed and graphics.
• Battery: Capacity increases to 4,800 mAh, up from the 4,400 mAh cell used in the Z Fold7.
• AI & Editing: Introduces My FanCam in the Gallery app to automatically track and reframe video footage around a selected subject.
• Thermal Management: Includes a larger vapor chamber to manage heat during multitasking and extended use.

Galaxy Z Flip8

• Dimensions and Thickness: The Flip8 measures 6.1mm thick when unfolded, making it slimmer than the Flip7 (6.5mm). Display sizes remain consistent at 4.1 inches for the cover screen and 6.9 inches for the main inner panel.
• FlexWindow Upgrades: The cover screen now hosts Now Brief, presenting personalized cards for weather, schedules, stock updates, and notifications without needing to flip open the phone.
• Camera Enhancements: Incorporates a Camcorder Grip mode for one-handed recording, Super Steady horizontal locking, and Dual Recording to capture front and rear cameras simultaneously.
