Apple’s First-Ever Touchscreen MacBook Pro Arrives
Marking a historical turning point for the Mac lineup, Apple has officially introduced its first-ever touchscreen laptop: the all-new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display.
For over a decade and a half, Apple leadership famously resisted bringing touch controls to laptops, arguing that macOS was fundamentally designed for a keyboard and trackpad. But with the introduction of its new macbooks, Apple is rewriting its own design playbook.
Direct Multi-Touch and Tandem OLED
For the first time on macOS, the MacBook Pro incorporates full multi-touch functionality directly into the primary screen panel rather than adding an external digitizer layer, minimizing latency during on-screen interactions. Users can scroll, pinch-to-zoom, rotate, and sketch directly on display elements, complementing standard trackpad and keyboard controls for creative workflows like 3D modeling in Blender, digital audio fader manipulation in Logic Pro, and iOS touch interface testing inside Xcode.

The visual subsystem is driven by the PROLED XDR display, which relies on a dual-layer tandem OLED panel backed by a millisecond-level display control engine:
- Luminance: Up to 1,000 nits sustained full-screen brightness, with peak HDR and SDR brightness reaching 2,000 nits.
- Contrast Ratio: 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, eliminating backlight blooming and halos around high-contrast edges.
- Color Spaces: Simultaneous support for P3 and Adobe RGB wide color gamuts to handle both HDR video mastering and print production.
- Refresh Rates: ProMotion technology supporting adaptive refresh rates between 10Hz and 120Hz.
- Surface Coating: Standard anti-reflective coating with an available nano-texture glass configuration to minimize ambient glare.
- Reference Modes: Includes dedicated presets for filmmaking, graphic design, and DICOM medical imaging reference for educational and research viewing.
Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island replaces the static display notch at the top of the screen. It acts as an interactive area for quick access to Spotlight search, active background tasks, and system controls. Users can accept incoming AirDrop requests, control background audio playback, manage active timers, view application updates, and interact with Siri directly from the top interface area without opening separate utility windows.
Performance
Powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display delivers high-throughput hardware acceleration for professional video editing, code compilation, 3D modeling, and generative AI execution. The interior incorporates a completely redesigned thermal dissipation system that enables high performance across long rendering sessions within a thinner, lighter chassis.
